Scripture: Romans 1:1-7 (ESV)
Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God, which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy Scriptures, concerning his Son, who was descended from David according to the flesh and was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord, through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations, including you who are called to belong to Jesus Christ, To all those in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Devotion:
In Romans 1:1-7, Paul introduces himself not just with a title, but with his identity. He is a servant of Christ, called and set apart. This passage isn’t just an introduction. It’s a mirror that reflects a deeper truth about our lives too. Each of us, like Paul, has been called for a purpose far beyond our daily routines. As Christians, we’re drawn into a story that spans eternity, a story of redemption and grace.
The world often tells us our value is found in our achievements, in the loudness of our voice in the crowd, or in the amount of likes we gather on social media. Yet, Paul’s words cut through that noise, reminding us that our true identity and purpose are rooted in being “called to belong to Jesus Christ.”
Jesus is the central figure of Paul’s greeting. He is the answer to the deep sense of longing and inadequacy we often feel. Through His life, death, and resurrection, He addresses our deepest needs—forgiveness, purpose, and belonging. Jesus isn’t just a historical figure; He is the living Lord who calls us into a relationship with Him, sets us apart, and sends us out with a mission.
This calling isn’t just for a select few but for all who believe, transcending time, culture, and geography.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for calling me into Your family and setting me apart for Your purposes. Help me to find my identity in You and not in the fleeting standards of the world. Strengthen me to live out this calling with courage and humility, knowing that it is by Your grace I am saved and sent. May my life reflect the love and hope found in Jesus Christ, and may I be a light to those around me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Today, take a moment to reflect on your calling. How are you uniquely equipped to serve those around you? Identify one way you can make a difference in someone’s life today, whether it’s through a word of encouragement, an act of kindness, or simply being present. Remember, your value comes from who you are in Christ, not what you do. Let this truth guide your actions and interactions throughout the day.
